LITTLE ABOUT ME
I’m a born and bred Muslim Londoner, who moved to SA with my South African husband in 2006. I never knew how British I was until my move. Missing the crisp cold London air, the London parks, markets; unexpectantly the Jubilee Line and the bustle of Londoners rushing!
This being my first time leaving family, friends and home land; it took some adjusting needless to say.
Despite missing London, I could not have imagined a more vibrant and richer place to have begun my new chapter in life.
South Africa awoke my senses to nature, food and most rewarding, Islam.
Family and friends visiting thereafter were introduced to the famous Steers Burger, Jimmy’s Killer Prawns and Spur Chippewa Steak House to name but a few; they left with longing for more and a strong desire to visit again.
With an amazing halal food scene being the backbone; golden beaches along the warm Indian Ocean and Safaris all in a day’s outing, life is enhanced.
Beautiful masjids are set on hill tops overlooking oceans and valleys, making my salah and ibada that much more uplifting. How can you not fall deeper in love with Allah when He has surrounded you with such beauty? This country is home to dynamic scholars; frequent celebrations of Islam; often under marquees shading you and always, always finished off with great food.
A standing joke for my husband when in London, he is often asked, “so where are you ‘really’ from?” being of Indian race. My husband’s answer being, “I’m Muslim and South African,”3rd generation for further clarification.
An indication as to how long Islam has been here, well over 100 years, a hint at the amazing experiences waiting to be explored. South Africa is a country rich in Islamic and native history, architecture; natural wonders boasting the ‘Big 5’ wild animals, iconic mountains and oceanic phenomena.
Which is my motivation behind creating Muslim’s Travel SA.
It is with out a doubt a privilege to live and learn from a new culture, experience a new country and uncover local gems. I am excited to show you a South Africa which will captivate you the moment you step down.
