Captivating Durban & South African Safari 

A fitting intro to Durban will be its Golden Mile, A Sedgeway guided tour awaits you along the sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean; a round trip from the iconic landmark Moses Madiba Stadium to Ushaka Marine World. Take in the sights with opportunities to stop on the way.

Halal restaurants are dotted along the promonard and its no better a place to start your culinary journey.

Spend a day at Ushaka Marine world, with its Wet and Wild park set against the backdrop of the stunning ocean. Begin on the lazy river ride and build up to the Black Mamba slide. Take a caged dive with sharks then snorkel at the marine park.  Head to the dolphin show and a stroll at the aquarium.

Make a day of water activities and take a surfing class in the ocean with views of Africa’s biggest harbour and colossal cargo ships dotted in the distance.  On the best of days, the water is aqua blue and tepid. Enjoy every opportunity to absorb these stunning views.

Step into Durban’s beautiful Masjids. The Grey Street Masjid once was the biggest in the southern hemisphere. This grand building holds a fish pond wadu area, original marble, chandeliers and crown moulding dating back to 1895. Situated in a bustling commercial area, experience the old business district.

Travelling further into urban surroundings, taking in the local way of life, you to visit the Riverside Masjid and Habibia Soofie Darbar. These places of meditation are set on hilltops overlooking valleys and oceans and the resting place of two pias individuals responsible for bringing Islam to the shores.

To grasp the vast beauty of KZN has to offer you will head off on a historical and scenic day’s journey along the Midlands Meander to the Nelson Mandela’s capture site. Madiba, affectionally named by his people, began his imprisoned for 27 years at this point.  His monument poetically designed with each aspect reflecting on a pivotal point in his life.

Driving through Pietermaritzburg, the provincial capital, the road then meanders through dense foliage into the Valley of a 1000 Hills. The route offers views of the Drakensburg Mountain and the Shongweni Dam; enjoy a picnic lunch at these picturesque locations.

Traditional Zulu people still live in the Valley, an opportunity to see a cultural village and be welcomed by Zulu dancers.

You will travel the Inanda route where Gandhi built his Phoenix settlement. Further momentous occasions are marked along the way; it is the birthplace of John Dube, the ANC’s first president and where Nelson Mandela cast his vote in the country’s first democratic elections.

Your safari adventure is set within The HluHluwe Game Reserve set in the heart of Zululand, 250km north of Durban central.  Staying two nights at a luxury lodge will allow you early morning and late night drives on open top 4x4s, along dusty roads along 96000 hectares of Wilderness.

Sights and sounds that you can hardly imagine await you, whether they be the landscapes, an African sunsets, or the animals themselves. Colours ranging from brilliant blue to golden yellow, from violet to orange and everything in between set the scene.

A surreal sensation overcomes you when you encounter the wildlife; To see a lions stride past, extruding an aura of strength or a rhino covered in the African dust, almost out of ancient history with their striking resemblance to dinosaurs.  Seeing the graceful way a giraffe moves in the African Sahara, amongst the tree tops never ties.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrival Durban

A South African Braai

Welcome to Durban - The Warmest place to be!  Our local representative will be waiting to transfer you to your Hotel, where you have the remainder of the day to relax and take in the nearest beach should you wish to.

A halal Braai (South African for BBQ) will be prepared in your honour for dinner.  A private transfer will take you to and from the venue. A beautiful evening under the stars enjoying Durban’s finest selection of Braai food.

Have an early night, as your time here will be all about early start and relaxing evenings.

Day 2 - The Goldern Mile and the city of Durban

- Sedway Tour- The city  of Durban - Florida Road

Its an early start at 8am as you are collected from your hotel. There’s time to grab a quick halal breakfast should you wish to (own cost) at the destination.

Returning from your Sedgway Tour, our representative will meet you and embark on exploring the contrasts and creativity of our city. The best place to start are the Markets of Warwick offcourse. Dismantle the opportunities and challenges faced by the entrepreneurs who form the life blood of this, the Durban’s beating heart - get to grips this remarkable space.

Florida Road has always been the social soul of the city bustling with trendy halal cafes and restaurants. This historical road is now the poster for the regeneration of the Durban’s inner city powered by Urban Lime. Stop for lunch at Roti & Chai (halal)— a new street food hotspot (own cost).

Take Innes Road for a view of the city skyline as you head to Station Drive Precinct — the creative hub of Durban.

Your Tour will end back at the hotel.  Book an evening’s spa treatment (own cost); spend the evening at your leisure and dine at one of Durban's many halal restaurants.  You are spoilt for choice with gastronomies local and from around the world.

Day 3 - A Spirtuallly Uplifting Day

-Shaikh Ahmed Deedat Centre – Durban Masjids – Overport

The Islamic Propagation Centre International (IPCI) was founded in 1957 by the Late Shaikh Ahmed Deedat; who had dedicated more than 40 years of his life presenting Islam, mainly to non-Muslims across the world. A renowned lecturer in Islam, famous for his numerous inter-religious public debates.  He was awarded the King Faisal International award in 1986, a prestigious recognition of the value of his Dawah efforts in the world of Islam. 

Walk though his office, look though his work and publishing’s, guided by a dynamic and passionate speaker; listen to the manly inspiring stories of Shaikh Ahmed Deedat life and time as a Durban local and his accomplishments in dawah work, which to date is still in operation.

Thereafter, our guild will take you across to Grey Street Masjid also known as Jumma Masjid. Once the largest in the southern hemisphere, the masjid dates back to 1895 and holds much history of Muslim settlers over the decades. 

Through the bustling streets of Central Town, you will then proceed to Riverside Masjid, Habibia Soofie Darbar. This place of meditation is set on a hilltop overlooking the Indian Oceans and the Umgeni River.  It is the resting place of a pious individual, responsible for bringing Islam to these shores. Take in the beautiful architecture of the white masjid, often mesmerizingly offset by clear and brilliant blue skies.

Our guide will talk you through the masjid’s history. A museum there displays many artefacts and details of Hazrath Soofie Saheb accomplishments in Durban in 1895. Hair rising accounts of dedication and strength despite much adversary to establish the love of Islam in SA. Truly a beloved and chosen creation of Allah.

Travelling further into urban surroundings, taking in the local way of life, you will visit our more recently renovated Westville Masjid, a stunning modern architectural build. Our tour is concluded here.

Enjoy late afternoon free time with our chauffeur until 6pm. We'll equip you with many suggestions, there's so much to take in!

 Day 4 - Ushaka Marine World & the Indian Ocean

   -Ushaka Aquarium & Wet & Wild – Durban’s Coastline -

Day 5 - Midlands Meander

-Nelson Mandela Capture site – Picnic at Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens – Ghandi’s Museum -Zulu Cultural show -

It is an early 8:am start with our female guide as you set off on a day tour to explore greater Durban, KZN.

To grasp the vast beauty KZN has to offer you will head off on a historical and scenic day’s journey along the Midlands Meander to the Nelson Mandela’s capture site. Madiba, affectionally named by his people, began his imprisoned for 27 years at this point.  His monument poetically designed with each aspect reflecting on a pivotal point in his life.

Drive through Pietermaritzburg, KZN’s provincial capital; our guide will share it’s local history.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens.

Next stop, Pietermaritzburg National Railway where Mahatma Ghandi was removed from the train in May 1893, because a white male passenger objected to his presence in the first-class carriage.  Ghandi who objected was thrown off the train, motivating him to fight for racial discrimination which also led to his unique vision of nonviolent resistance, satyagraha.

At the station, visit the museum dedicated to Ghandi.

Driving through meandering roads amongst the dense foliage of the Valley of a 1000 Hills, were traditional Zulu people still live; you will visit the PheZulu Safari Park, an opportunity to see a cultural village and be welcomed by Zulu dancers.

After a full day, unwind in the evening at your leisure. Its a 5am start tomorrow!

Day 6 - Big 5 Safari

-St Lucia Boat Cruise – 4x4 Safari Game Drive

A 5 am pick up ensure a fulfilling all-inclusive adventure as your safari  is set within The HluHluwe Game Reserve set in the heart of Zululand, 250km north of Durban central. 

The next 2 days are not just about land rovers and game drives, it’s also about the sheer diversity of nature.

Make the journey north to the only town in Southern Africa that is completely surrounded by water — St Lucia. Did you know hippopotamus roam the streets out here? Jump onboard your jetty for a leisurely and often surprising cruise through the estuary — home to several pods of hippopotamus and a good few crocodiles.

After a hearty lunch take a drive further north to an award-winning Private Game Reserve renowned for their great cheetah densities and lion sightings. Your ranger on your game drives is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable on the reserve and knows it like the back of his hand. Embark on a 3/4 hour afternoon/evening game drive with an emphasis on big cats. Fingers crossed.

Day 7 - Big 5 Safari

 -Morning 4x4 Game Drive -

Bright and early the following day your ranger will whisk you back to the reserve for a choice between a Big 5 Morning Game Drive or a Walking Safari with an experienced armed ranger. Enjoy a 3/4 hour experiencing the African wilderness intimately tracking the iconic Big 5 + other species such as giraffe, cheetah, wild dogs and more. Tuck into lunch before heading back to Durban.

Day 8  - At Your Leisure

Take yourself on Durban’s Halal food trail, exploring our finest

  • Enjoy your day and last night at a Boutique Hotel at your leisure

    Spend the day on our beautiful beaches; swim in the warm Indian Ocean; book in to an afternoon of spa treatment and then head to Gateway Theatre of Shopping for the evening, concluding the night at one of the many halal restaurants there.

    Have your bags packed and ready to check out, as tomorrow starts with a boat ride to watch a Stunning South African sunrise.

Day 9 - Departure

A South African Sunrise

A dawn pick up, sets you off on a boat ride in to the horizon. Wait wait and watch an epic sunrise unfold before you, Insha’Allah.  A beautiful end to your South African trip. 

Time permitting stop for breakfast (own cost) before returning to your hotel to check out and transfer to at King Shaka Airport.
